In ancient and medieval times, gates and gatehouses of cities and castles were heavily defended and fortified to prevent breaching of the gates. Often the gate would consist of several pairs of doors and iron grates along a tunnel through the gatehouse. The top of the tunnel commonly had murder holes to allow defenders to attack invaders trying to breach the inner doors. Drawbridges were common in conjunction with gates to facilitate passing the moat; moats were often used to increase the effective height of the walls.
- Automatic Gate
If you have a long driveway leading to your home, an automatic gate may be just what you need. Readily available and not difficult to install, these gates can be a decorative addition to the entrance to your property as well as a necessary security device.
- Pet Gate
The pet gate is a highly useful invention to help you keep your pets out of trouble. By installing a pet gate in particular places in your home, you can either enclose your dog or cat in one particular room or you can prevent your animal from entering rooms you would rather keep pet-free.
- Gate Latch
While everyone knows how to operate a standard latch, a magnetic latch is a complete revolution in the world of gate latch technology. These latches are almost completely child proof, key lockable and attractive. You can order three different styles, including the top pull and vertical pull (which you open by pulling on the top of the latch) and the much cheaper horizontal pull (which can be opened by pulling from the side of the gate latch), so order based on what style you feel can offer the most safety and ease of use.
- Automatic Gate Opener
Some automatic gate openers are truly automatic. No permission is required to enter as a signal is sent when a car nears the gate and the gate opens with no action on the part of the driver or the homeowner. In the homeowner's absence, the gate can be turned off, thus protecting the property.
- Wrought Iron Gates
If you wish to accent your standard wrought iron gates, there are plenty of products to allow you to do so. First and foremost, for just pennies you can purchase a huge variety of different gate latches, hinges and handles to make your gate look as good as it possibly can. These are relatively cheap products and can range from the simple to the highly complex, depending on how much security you want and what type of style you are looking for.
